Patek Philippe

Founded more than 180 years ago in Switzerland, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest luxury watch manufacturers in the world, with some claiming it to be the best too.

The company has achieved many things during its reign as one of the top watchmakers in the world, including being the first to patent the first double chronograph in 1905; the first to develop the split-seconds chronograph wristwatch in 1923; the winner of various precision prizes in the 1944 Geneva Observatory competition; and in 1989 when the Calibre 89 was released – the world’s most complicated mechanical watch (of the time).

Only four of these pieces were ever made and are among the top ten most expensive watches ever to be sold at an auction, well in excess of $1.5 million.

It’s been the chosen brand of watch for many a famous face including the likes of Eric Clapton, Drake, John F Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela.

Even Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom owns a Patek Phillipe watch.

They are they chosen timepiece many a famous face, and it’s very easy to see how they can become a lifelong obsession.

Just take the Patek Philippe Chronograph 5070 for example.

Released in 1998, almost 40 years after it’s last, the 5070 is a rather basic watch compared to some of the others in this collection, yet it’s still one of the most sought after.

Sporting a yellow gold casing and a black dial, or a white or rose gold version with a silver dial, the style of this watch has definitely been stolen from the 50’s.

Or, for more exclusivity, why not set your sights on the 10-year anniversary version that’s made of platinum and hosts a metallic blue sunburst dial.

Another of Patek Phillipe’s more sought after models is that of the Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002G.

This watch features an 18k white gold case and a double-side dial.

Inside, the movement’s regulator is a one-minute tourbillon.

It’s regarded as being one of the world’s most accurate timepieces, and with only two of these watches ever have been made, you can imagine the price tag is pretty hefty.

But, if you want the best, and have the funds, what’s a cool $1.5 million between friends?

If neither of those models takes your fancy, how about getting your hands on a certified Patek Philippe Nautilus?

Originally launched more than 40 years ago, in 1976, this watch has made quite a stir since it first emerged.

The Nautilus’ design was based upon that of a ship’s porthole.

It features an octagonal bezel with horizontal grooves running across the dial.

The movement is self-winding, and it’s water-resistant up to 120 meters in total, which was a pretty big deal back then.

After taking a quick look at any of the above watches it’s clear to see where the attraction lies and how it’s so easy to become hooked.
