The Timex brand is considered by many people as a leader in regards to high quality, reliable, and affordable watches.
The T49905 is mentioned quite often. Many people claim that it’s reliable, good quality, accurate, and can handle everyday use well.
In this Timex T49905 review, we want to either agree or disagree with the consumers.
- Adjustable brown 20 millimeter genuine leather strap fits up to 8-inch wrist circumference. On natural lighting the Strap color...
- Black dial with date window at 4 o'clock; Arabic numerals in increments of 5 up to 60
- 30-minute chronograph measures to 1/20th second
Rugged tough look
One thing we concur about the timepiece is that it does look well cut for regular use and the tough outdoors.
It comes in a rugged look courtesy of the black metal case and tough-looking leather straps. The unit, according to many consumers, can take the beating fairly well.
The case and the face are more resistant to scratches, stains, dents, chips, and more.
And considering the case measures 43mm, it is a fairly large watch and should be more suitable for men.
Nice chronograph layout
One thing that people complain about chronograph watches is that the dial can be a little cluttered.
This can make viewing time a bit challenging especially when in a rush or in a poorly lit surrounding. The T49905 however, seems to fair way better than the other types.
This is probably because it has a large face and dials which is more accommodative to the many functions.
Moreover, the white markers, numerals, and hour/minute and second hands contrast the black background for easier viewing.
Clear tough mineral crystal
The mineral crystal comes in a nice flat size that creates a seamless union with the bezel.
It doesn’t leave a noticeable edge around it. The glass handles bangs, knocks, abrasion, and chips fairly well. In fact, many users say that there watch still looks as good as new despite having worn it for a long time.
And they normally give credit to the tough crystal.
The only concern for many people is that the piece lacks an antiglare coating. This may make viewing time a little of a challenge especially when it is super bright out there.
But in comparison you other types in its league, this one does have an edge despite the lack of the protective coating.
Nice blending of analog display with quartz movement
Timex has outdone itself by merging analog display with quartz movement.
What you get is a timepiece that combines the classic look with the modern appeal. You find hands/sticks adjacent to the digital movement, and all seem or work in unison.
The accuracy of the movement is relatively good since the watch only loses a few seconds in a day. The chronograph can measure up to 30 minutes without any issues and it’s accurate.
And with a battery that can last for approximately 3 years, then this is a watch that should deliver good service.
Genuine leather straps
To ensure the rugged look and longevity of the watch isn’t in doubt, Timex decided to go for genuine leather straps.
It blends nicely with the black steel case and the black dial. It features a smooth finish both inner and outer and doesn’t feel too stiff even when new.
To ensure it stays intact during use, the straps are harnessed via a black steel buckle. And to remind you it’s an “Expedition” you’ll find “E” engraved on the buckle as well as the case back.
Our verdict
The T49905 not only looks tough but has proven reliable to many people. The strong steel case and buckle can handle bangs, abrasions, knocks, chips, vibrations fairly well.
This also applies to the mineral crystal which offers better clarity than most timepieces in its range. Moreover, the unit runs seamlessly and accurately courtesy of the quartz movement and the battery can last for as many as 3 years.
The only shortcoming may be its relatively large size or lack of antiglare coating.
If you are looking for a rugged, well-designed, reliable and affordable watch, then the Timex T49905 is certainly a good choice.
