Throughout history, watches have not really changed much.
Aside from today’s smartwatch, most timepieces have retained that classic look.
Finding something that is genuinely new when looking for a watch can be pretty hard, but Skagen has definitely made it easier.
This watch is a long-needed step forward in design, and we take a look at this piece in this Skagen 809XLTBB review.
- Quartz movement
- Durable mineral crystal protects watch from scratches
- Case diameter: 40 mm
Movement
While fancy, old-school mechanical movements are lauded amongst horologists, it may be tiresome to maintain.
However, with Quartz movements, you don’t have to worry about winding as the movement is powered by a battery.
Luckily, this watch has a reliable Japanese Quartz movement that’s famous for being incredibly accurate and consistent, as long as the battery is functional.
Case & Crown
If strength is what you look for in a watch, you’d be very pleased to know that this timepiece uses a titanium case, which not only offers sturdy protection but also looks amazing.
The case measures in at 40mm in diameter, the perfect size for a modern man’s watch, which looks strong on the wrist, but doesn’t look too flashy or arrogant.
The round titanium case also fits in just right with the black textured crown at the 3 o’clock position.
Dial & Crystal
Another highlight of this product is it’s unique and forward dial design.
The center is a gray textured design surrounded by a black ring, which is where the silver stick markers are placed.
The hands are silver as well, which blends perfectly with the dial’s motifs. On the main dial are three subdials, which are used for showing the date, day, and 24-hour time.
To bring the whole design together is the perfectly placed Skagen logo at the 12 ‘o’clock position.
To protect the dial is a mineral crystal, which is famous worldwide for its durability.
Bezel
This product has a stationary black titanium bezel.
The bezel serves no extra function but looks great, especially with the watch’s colorway and textured strap (which we’ll get to in a minute).
Strap & Buckle
One of the most unique features of this piece is the black mesh titanium strap.
This kind of strap is not the most common of straps, however, it’s a truly stunning addition to the watch.
The strap fits comfortably on the wrist, and clamps very easily, so you won’t have to worry about the watch slipping off.
It’s clear at first glance that Skagen put a lot of thought into designing this timepiece, making sure every element of the watch is cohesive.
Water Resistance
This watch is water-resistant up to 99ft, this means that you don’t have to worry about it when washing your hands, taking a shower, and even when taking the occasional light swim.
However, it’s important to note that this isn’t a diver’s watch and shouldn’t be used for intense water activities.
Conclusion
Going for something new and unique can be scary for some people, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Change is not something people get used to, but trying something new is the only way to discover new things.
For those wanting to take a step forward, this watch is definitely a step in the right direction.
