The search for the perfect dress watch is a tough one.
Finding the perfect balance between class, functionality, and affordability is close to impossible in the world of horology.
But with brands such as Orient releasing practical and beautifully designed watches, the search has become slightly easier.
We take a look at one of these close to perfect timepieces in this Orient FAC00005W0 review.
This watch uses a very reliable Japanese Automatic movement.
This means you don’t have to worry about changing the battery every now and then like with Quartz movements or getting it rewound like mechanical movements.
With this watch, the movement of your arm and wrist it what gives the timepiece its power.
If the watch stops, just give your wrist a good shake to make it tick again, but if you wear it on a daily basis, you won’t have to worry about the hands stopping at all.
Case & Crown
As with a lot of dress watches out there, this one comes in a very classy stainless steel case.
Coming in at 40mm, this is the perfect size for a large men’s watch, which is becoming the standard for what a good watch is nowadays.
The case is also 11.8mm wide, meaning it can fit under the cuff perfectly, making this an amazing compliment to your best suit.
At the back of the case is an engraving of the Orient logo, a subtle, yet perfect detail.
To adjust the watch, simply use the crown, which is the perfect size that allows easy adjustments while not being too large that it looks unpleasing or feels awkward on the wrist.
Dial & Crystal
If you were to ask me where a lot of this product’s appeal comes from, I would enthusiastically and wholeheartedly tell you that it’s the dial that makes this watch shine.
It’s simple, classy, easy-to-read, while also catching any horologist’s eye.
The white background blends perfectly with the silver hands and stick markers.
The Orient logo placed below the 12 o’clock mark adds a bit of extra class to the already classy dial, and font chosen for the “Water Resistant” engraving at the 6 o’clock position could not have been more perfect.
To protect the dial and the timepiece from bumps and scratches is the ever-reliable mineral crystal.
To be honest, there’s nothing really that special going on with the bezel on this product.
It’s a stationary one, meaning there are no extra complications such as those found on diver’s and aviator’s watches.
However, the silver-colored stainless steel bezel looks stunning with the great design of the dial and the strap.
Strap & Buckle
Personally, I prefer leather straps over stainless steel ones.
They always seemed much classier in my eyes, that’s why I’m absolutely in love with the dark brown strap that comes with the Orient FAC00005W0.
It has the perfect lug width to accompany a 40mm watch, and the classic Ardillon buckle simply completes this dress watch.
Considering that this is a standard dress watch, one cannot expect it to have a great deal of water resistance.
However, 30m of water resistance is really all you would need from a watch like this.
This means that the watch can be worn while washing your hands, taking a shower, and even going for a casual swim, but prolonged exposure to water may result in some damage to the product.
So keep in mind not to wear it on your next diving trip.
Dress watches are of utmost importance.
They complete any formal get-up and would really help you look your absolute best in a suit.
A perfect piece to accompany a suit is one that looks very classy but doesn’t steal any of the attention from your suit.
And that’s exactly what you get with the Orient FAC00005W0.
