Fossil FS5308 Review – The Minimalist Quartz Dress Watch

cta 2

Every man needs a dress watch. In truth, it should be the first watch in your collection. A dress watch is a necessary complement to your best suit and should be worn to all formal events you attend.

Ideally, these pieces are classy and familiar, but nowadays there are dress watches nowadays that have a distinctly modern look but are still as classy as they get.

We take a look at one of these modern pieces in this Fossil FS5308 review.

Movement

There are quite a few different watch movements out there, but none are as trustworthy and practical as Japanese Quartz.

This movement is known worldwide for its incredible accuracy and its cost-effective qualities. The FS5308 is powered by Japanese Quartz and because of that, you can rest assured that your watch will always be ticking on time.

And you’ll only have to worry about accuracy when you have to change the battery (which isn’t as often as a lot of people think).

Dial & Crystal

Fossil FS5308 dial

The design of this watch is beautifully minimalist. There isn’t a lot going on with dial, but that doesn’t mean that the design isn’t incredible.

The dial has a deep black background, only to be contrasted by a subtle gray on the hour markers and hands, and a blue for the second’s hand and the minute indicators.

This contrast allows you to easily read the watch when it’s on your wrist, and also looks great. Below the 12 o’clock position is the iconic Fossil logo, and above the 6 o’clock there’s a great “dash-arrow-dash” detail that is pure class.

To keep this dial safe when worn, Fossil has put a mineral crystal, which is one of the hardest materials on the planet so you won’t have to worry about any scratches.

Case & Crown

A lot of the modern design in this watch is manifested in the case, a pure black, stainless steel case is something a lot of classic watches have, but the FS5308 has an incredibly slim case, giving it a very fresh, yet classy look.

In fact, the case is only 8mm thin, which when paired with the large 44mm diameter, is a match made in fashion heaven.

The large diameter makes this a modern large men’s watch that makes you look more masculine, while the slimness of the case gives a sleek look that isn’t common in a lot of modern timepieces.

Following the minimalist theme that is seen throughout the whole product, the crown of this watch is perfectly placed at the 3 o’clock position, and is large enough to easily adjust the time of the watch, but isn’t too large that you start to feel it on your wrist.

Bezel

Fossil FS5308 on wrist

The bezel on this watch doesn’t add a lot of functionality to the watch as it just stationary. However, the black stainless steel bezel seems to be the perfect addition to bring the whole design together. It’s sleek, classy, and modern, which is everything this watch stands for.

Strap & Buckle

While most dress watches have brown leather straps, Fossil decided to put a black stainless steel strap which follows the overall theme of this timepiece.

The strap measures 22mm, which is the standard pairing to a 44mm case, and simply looks great on the wrist. To make sure that the watch doesn’t just slip off your wrist, Fossil also added a fold over clasp that’s known for its safety.

Water Resistance

This watch also is water resistant up to 50m, which means that you can wear this while going for a swim, or when taking a shower.

However, it’s important to note that this isn’t a diver’s watch. This means that the watch probably won’t survive if you wear it when diving, snorkeling or doing other intense water activities.

In Conclusion

Fossil really utilized modern design when designing this incredible piece. The minimalist themes, along with the materials chosen really are for a watch of this time.

This watch would be perfect if paired with a black suit or tux, or even with a blue one. For your next dress watch, look no further than this magnificent piece by Fossil.
