Movement
As far as the movement is concerned this watch is nothing special, but in no way is that a bad thing.
Staying true the line’s minimalist philosophy, the watch uses a very simple, yet also incredibly practical quartz movement.
The movement provides you with everything you’d need in a “minimalist” watch, which is simply accurate time-telling, no need for any fancy complications such as date windows and moon phases.
Case & Crown
While minimalism is the driving force of this watch’s design, in no way does that mean that it isn’t beautiful, as everything about this watch is absolutely stunning!
The case of this watch measures 44mm in diameter so it sits largely on the wrist, but that’s fairly common with a lot of men’s watches as the popularity of large watches has seen a steady rise in recent years.
While the watch’s case is fairly large in diameter, the case is also incredibly slim being only 8mm wide, which allows the watch to appear large on the wrist, while also being incredibly light and sleek.
At the 3 o’clock position rests a thin crown, which not only looks great, it also fits perfectly with the watch’s elegant and sleek design.
The watch’s stationary black bezel also aids in giving the watch its incredible look, while also keeping with the design’s themes almost perfectly.
Strap
The watch comes with this beautiful brown leather strap.
The strap is 22mm in width, which fits almost perfectly with the case’s size. The comfortable and soft leather used for the strap is simply what can be expected with Fossil, as they are well-known for high-quality leather straps.
For those who aren’t a fan of the strap, Fossil also made this watch compatible with all 22mm straps, giving you the option to mix and match as you please.
Water Resistance
While the watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters, it isn’t ideal to use this watch participating in water activities.
This is because the watch isn’t designed to handle extended periods of time submerged in water. Aside from that, it isn’t advisable to get the leather strap wet, let alone soaked.
Dial & Crystal
The best manifestation of the minimalist philosophy that goes into all the watches in this line is without a doubt the beautifully designed dial.
The dial’s design is as clean as it gets. The black background blends perfectly with the khaki-colored hour markers, with minute markers that match and a simple orange numerical minute indicators situated along the outer chapter ring.
To complement the orange accent are a matching seconds hand, along with an orange dash arrow dash detail above the 6 o’clock mark.
Right below the 12 o’clock marker is the iconic Fossil name, in their signature typeface.
The dial is what brings all the minimalist elements of the watch together, and to protect the dial is a mineral crystal to make sure that you don’t have to deal with scratches on the watch at any time.
All in all
The Fossil FS5305 is a truly beautiful watch, that shows Fossil’s ability to seamlessly fuse elegance, class, and modern watch design with minimalist aesthetics.
This watch was made for a stylish and modern watch wearer but isn’t too far out of the comfort zone for a lot of wearers who love to stick to classic watch designs (such as myself).
All in all, this watch doesn’t fall short on any expectations, resulting in a watch that is as simple, but also as beautiful as it gets.
