Citizen JY8051-08E Review: Eco-Drive Perpetual Calendar Watch

Citizen JY8051-08E review

Overview: This Citizen JY8051-08E is a highly functional watch that would be a perfect tool for those who like an adventure.

This analog/digital watch has a chronograph, perpetual calendar, atomic timekeeping, and a slide rule bezel.

With all these functions, it’d be easy to assume that the dial is complicated and hard to read, but that isn’t the case.

All the sub-dials have their own space on the face and don’t overstep.

Because of this, the watch has a very tough and bold design.

If you like outdoor watches as much as I do, then this piece may be the right one for you.

And in this Citizen JY8051-08E review, I’ll share some of this watch’s cool features.

Pros:

Atomic Timekeeping can be synchronized to 43 world cities

The digital chronograph measures up to 1/100th of a second

Green details on the dial add style and make navigating through the dial easier

The Eco-Drive movement doesn’t require a battery

Cons:

Only has a mineral crystal

High Quality, Precision Timekeeping

Any watch with atomic timekeeping is already one step above most watches in terms of keeping time.

This is because radio signals with synced with the atomic clock constantly adjust the watch’s time, meaning you’ll never be off with your time.

That means this watch will keep you on time as long as you can receive the signal.

Aside from all of that, it also has a digital chronograph.

This is a feature I really enjoy as reading an analog one with multiple sub-dials can be difficult at times, especially when you’re rushing.

To complement the ease of atomic timekeeping is a perpetual calendar that automatically adjusts to the days of the month.

It even takes leap years into account all the way to 2100.

There’s no need to worry about adjusting this watch, especially with a solar-powered movement that doesn’t require battery changes.

So that means once you have this piece set-up it will perform at a high level as long as it has regular exposure to light.

A Tough Design For The Outdoors

Let’s get this out of the way first.

There is no way that this watch will look good with a suit.

They just don’t work together.

However, not only does it look very natural with outdoor wear, but the timepiece will also add some toughness and a bit of edge to any casual outfit.

The large, 46mm case is a great, tough size that isn’t too big that only people with large wrists can wear.

The black, silver, and green tones are laid out very nicely on the dial, resulting in a very cohesive design, that also makes reading the time very easily.

The black polyurethane strap works very well with the case design.

The 23mm lug width is a great compliment to the case size, but it is also a very easy size to find for those who wish to change the strap later on.

Customer Scores And Reviews

It should be no secret at this point that I really like this watch, but don’t just take my word for it.

All over the Amazon review section are positive reviews from satisfied customers.

They are quick to praise the overall comfort of this watch, considering its size and weight.

Other reviewers have said that this is a great sports watch that serves as much function as it adds style.

However, there was one complaint I saw.

It came from a reviewer who wished for there to be a better crystal than a simple mineral one.

While it would’ve been cool to have a sapphire crystal on this, it would’ve also added a significant amount to the price.

Conclusion

For those who go on hikes and generally love the outdoors, this could be the piece for you.

Its design, materials used, and overall functions of the watch make this piece a great partner for a hike, trek, or camping trip.

So if you’re one of those people, I highly recommend you check this piece out.
