Citizen BL8000-54L Review: Calibre 8700 Bracelet Men’s Watch

The Citizen BL8000-54L is a timepiece with an incredible design, a perpetual calendar, and a solar-powered movement.

So if you are still searching for a new watch, then this might be the one you were looking for.

The combination of modern design, classic influences, and new technology is what makes this watch what it is.

And I’ll give you all the details in this Citizen BL8000-54L review.

Citizen Men's BL8000-54L Eco-Drive Calibre 8700 Stainless...
  • Light-powered watch featuring blue multi-function dial with date window, perpetual calendar, and dual time
  • 39 mm stainless steel case with mineral dial window
  • Japanese quartz movement with analog display

Pros:

  • A very manly yet classy design goes great with any outfit
  • The solar-powered movement keeps accurate time while reducing maintenance needs
  • The 39mm dial is a flexible size that works with both large and small wrists
  • Luminous hands make reading the time in the dark very easy

Cons:

  • The watch only has a mineral crystal

A Design Of Pure Class

First of all, I have to mention the dial.

The way the blue and silver tones contrast each other just looks great.

The silver Roman numeral markers and hands add an air of sophistication that’s difficult to come by in this price range.

The sub-dials of the watch are laid out perfectly.

The 24-hour display, alternate timezone, and calendar are very easy to navigate through and to read.

Aside from that, the font choices give the watch so much class.

Another detail I really appreciate is the outer ring of the dial, where the months are written in a very classy silver tone.

Combine all of that with the silver, 39mm case (which is a very flexible size) and bracelet, and you have yourself a very cohesive watch.

Everything in the watch’s design compliments each other, making this a great piece to wear with a suit, or even just worn casually.

Timekeeping At Its Best

The Eco-Drive movement is almost synonymous with the Citizen brand at this point.

This movement gained popularity for its ability to keep track of time accurately (which is expected of Japanese quartz), while also eliminating the need for a battery change.

This was done by putting a solar panel on the dial which keeps the watch ticking.

As long as you the timepiece gets regular exposure to light, it can keep ticking for a lifetime.

Aside from having this famous movement, the Citizen BL8000-54L has a perpetual calendar, alternate timezones, and 24-hour display.

A perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for days of the month and leap years all the way up to 2100.

While having an alternate timezone option adds another layer of convenience, especially for those who have to go on business trips a lot.

The calendar displays the date, month, and the day.

While a 24-hour time display may seem purely aesthetic to some, there are others (including myself) who like the 24-hour format.

Customer Scores And Reviews

To solidify my opinion of the watch, I went to the Amazon review section to see if the watch satisfied customers.

To my delight, a lot of customers were.

One of them pointed out how this watch has all the features he’d ever need from a watch.

Others really appreciated how you only have to set the time and date once, then never worry about it again.

However, there were a couple of people who would have liked the watch more if it had a sapphire crystal.

This is understandable, as sapphire’s scratch-resistant qualities are unmatched.

However, in order to make the watch more accessible and keep the price down, Citizen settled for mineral crystal, which isn’t as resistant but more cost-effective.

Which is a decision I respect.

Conclusion

Underneath the incredible design of this watch is a lot of function.

From the modern solar-powered movement to the perpetual calendar this watch will have you covered.

So if you’re in the market for a watch with comfort, function, and style then this Citizen piece is worth considering.
